When CCTV technology first was introduced, video art pioneers like Vito Aconcci and Chris Burden jumped at the opportunity. For the first time, a person could see themselves live on a monitor, in 2 places at once. They made a point to highlight the box they were confined to. In El Pintor, I bring to light 2 frames, the frame of the iPhone that I watch myself in, and the frame of the canvas which I paint around. Using yellow tempera, I paint the space that I have framed myself into on my phone, carefully watching my every move. At the end, I stand back to inspect my master piece.
